He retired in 1995 as chairman emeritus. Before joining the Kellogg Foundation, Mawby was a university professor serving on the faculties of both Purdue and Michigan State University. He ended his career at MSU as assistant director of the Cooperative Extension Service responsible for 4-H youth programming. Mawby’s personal leadership led to the formation of the Council of Michigan Foundations and the Michigan Non-Profit Association and he continues to serve both organizations as a board member.
